Might be a little early to tell, but I vote ECM on this one, or possibility of a really bad ground for it

Yeah I would check the grounds and maybe make a few more. The only other thing would be to borrow a ECM for testing, but that might be a bit hard to come by.

Do you have any lights come on when you turn the key? maybe battery connections have corroded and need to be cleaned... or just kinda loose somewhere... i think 12 means the battery has been disconnected...

Put new terminals on, cheap and easy. I've had alot of problems with the factory terminals corroding up inside and having intermitten start/run problems. Shouldn't have shut off though, ECM problems (I've seen) usually has interior issue's at the same time. Like Tach, radio, and interior lighting going crazy. Next time you have problems unplug fuel pump at tank (right under rear seat) I've seen fuel pump problems do crazy stuff to a xj.

No check engine light means no power to or dead ecu. Check the ecu fuse and make sure it doesn't have a hairline crack in it.

Good luck it took me a day to figure out it was a bad ecu on my 91
