Are the two U-joints in the double cardan and the front U-joint attaching to the pinion yoke the same part number? If not, please tell me different! The parts store says they are the same.

I'm looking but I just bought some for the 1999, and I had to ask for someone else to help me. He kept pulling up the u-joints for the front and rear drive shafts. Finally a guy that had worked there for 20 years, looked at the computer, walked off and got the parts book. Found the part there.

At least on the 1999 all the u-joints are the same with the exception of the axle u-joints.

Rob, yes. they are a Spicer 1310 ujoint. The double cardan joints come in only two sizes. 1310 and 1350. 1350 is the one ton stuff.

I am afraid so. Spicer has basic series that they use in all their stuff. They use the same ujoint, but different yokes for the single and double cardan joints.

Are the Spicer 1310 and 5-153X different part names for the same u-joint?

I'm sorry I went off on a tangent again. I was thinking about my situation with the AXLE u-joints, not the drive shaft. GO back to ignoring me.

Got all seven u-joints changed out this weekend. The Harbor Freight heavy duty "C" clamp u-joint tool and a good bench vise made the job pretty managable. Going to wheel central Colorado for 6 days next week and am trying to get the XJ ready.
