XJ with a 4.2??????

Buddy of mine just got a 87 with only 3,500 on the motor(has paperwork showing rebuild dates and odometer reading at the time). Floorboards are shot as they usually are here in the great northeast. Its nothing fancy, BUT..................it has a 4.2 carbed in it. Did jeep make these or is this a retrofit?????????

Yes, they did. It is what came in the CJs prior to fuel injection.

I meant did they make em in the cherokees, from the factory, I had a 1990 wrangler that had one carbed, I have just never seen one in a cherokee before this one

okay, so someone has put this in themselves. It does seem to run pretty good, and no computer to worry about. They do the motorcraft carb upgrade, which I had done on my wrangler when I had it, and it made it run alot smoother.

That is my thought to. Someone got tired of messing with fuel injection. The question comes up from time to time about doing this.
