I am working on my 1990 cherokee and trying to get it to turn over. I'm trying to figure out what to replace. there could be teeth missing in the flywheel or starter and maybe its the starter cylanoid. I just want to get this thing started and I tried using a screwdriver as a starter cylanoid and it just spun because it wasn't engaging the flywheel. What do I do?! :bang: thanks!

This may sound weird.... but try reversing polarity on your starter. I installed a new starter on my dad's Ranger pickup for him once and I accidentally put the positive on the negative and vice versa. When you turn the key, the starter just spins and doesn't kick out to engage the flywheel. Switched cables around on the starter and VROOM!!! Started like a champ!!! No clue if this is your problem, but hopefully it's as simple as that!

Remove the starter and clean the bendix gear. They get crudded up and won't engage properly
