This is an underside of my 91 limited. I am looking for direct exhaust and can't find cat thing there.

PS: we don't have emission law here :D

Looks like a resonator to me. You don't need it lol just restricts air flow

Yup, I would say you were "catless"

Thanks for reply, so I am catless and having resonator thing which restricts airflow.
Is it ok to remove resonator/muffler combo and weld new muffler? current muffler have something inside and sometimes sounds very strange.

Yes, you will be OK. The resonator is kind of a straight through muffler. We call them glasspacks here in the states.

Unless you have a reason or want a loud Jeep I would not remove the muffler. The added noise level will be hard to tolerate for any long periods.

My question is why would there be a glass pack / resonator in front of a muffler ?

That used to be common just before cats. Makes them a little quieter.

it was there when I bought her 3.5 years ago. Recently replaced exhaust manifold, o2 sensor. Still have some acrid smell at tailpipe and once thought about emptying cat. Looked under her and found this there. My muffler went bad, needs replacement, have plan to find suitable one from local market.
