View Full Version : Have oil leaking near the filter.

Took the xj on the daily hour commute yesterday, when I arrived smelled oil burning. Found the leak, highlighted in the pic.

I am new to working on cars and I have no idea what this is that leaking, but oil is seeping in between the two parts, I guess its a seal of some kind.

Would appreciate any insight.

Yeah thats a common problem on xjs. The o rings in your oil filter adapter need to be replaced. There are a few different write ups on it

Man that was quick. I've read people bitching and bitching about getting that torx bolt out.

It wasn't fun, but I had to be somewhere right then, lol, the bolt was the hardest part, just got lucky and didn't break the socket.

Yeah I have a MF one. I ground a hardened torx bit to accept a 5/8 combo wrench, I put a 18" breaker bar on the box end and still can't budge the bolt. Would like to use some heat but a compartment fire would be emminent.
