ok so I saw this very basic trailer that I REALLY like and am considering building one with the help of another member here
heres the trailer

my question is could this trailer be bolted RIGHT to the frame??? or does it HAVE to have a spring... it looks as though it is NOT sprung

Without a spring of some sort the trailer would bounce uncontrolably. Like bounce off the ground and fly across lanes. That could be a torsion type axle, although ive never seen a dually version.

Without springs the frame will eventually bend

What about a set of airbags instead of springs?

Then you would have to build some sort of link setup. Which would be cool, but springs would be a lot easier

I wonder if they notched the frame and the leaf springs are bolted to the top of the box frame? its a chevy design to perhaps the shackles are inverted!???

this might sound far fetched but what about using the spring of the jeep thats ON the trailer and the weight of the jeep holding the trailer down...
USUALLY when I tie the jeep down I do it by axle anyhow leaving the jeep to bounce under its own suspension

The trailer will still bounce even tied down like that.

A trailer with 2 axles will pull more comfortably down the road.

And bounce less

neat looking but too short for my liking. My motor home is a dulley and has no springs

soooo the axle is bolted straight to the frame?

It looks like there aren't any springs. Unless there are some short springs mounted under the rail that can't be seen.

Theres quite a few dual axle, car trailers down here just relying on sidewalls for suspension ... :D

... but they dont go far ... or fast ... ;)

Proper factory made ones have suspension fitted tho.

Since you have plenty of XJ, clearance ... A curved trailer deck ought to allow you a low, loading end and ample space for trailer springs.
