I have a 98 Jeep XJ with a 4.5" lift, what do I need to do to fit 33s under it?

Some trimming and extended bumpstops should be plenty

if you cut the fenders I saw cut them off! Gives the XJ a more aggressive look in my opinion

Anyway I can take the flares off for now and get away with it, or will they still rub?

they will still rub. I've got 31" on my 4.5" lift trimmed about 2 off the front and about an inch off the back. The bead weld is a lot closer to the factory edge in the rear than it is in the front, so just make sure you trim below the weld. Also may need to relocate your washer fluid res unless you do some serious bumpstops

Ok I feel really stupid now, i have done more research on my Jeep. It has a 6 inch lift on it. Guess thats what i get for buying it like that and not doing it myself. So what do i need to do to get 33x12.50 under it? Thanks

Nothing really, id still cut the fenders off. My friends has a 6.5" lift and is running 32x10.50s and she's still tearing up her fenders

That is really good to hear, Im needing tires pretty bad and I wanted to make sure I could fit the size I wanted before I got new tires. Should I upgrade to 15x10 wheels or do you think the 15x8 wheels will work?

I'm running 6.5" lift with 33's very minor trimming to my fenders and no bump stops. So far no damage had been caused to my fenders from the tires hitting them.

It really kind of depends on what and where you will wheel. The 10" rims will be better for the tire. But if you are in a lot of rocks, an 8" rim will suck the sidewall in a little and protect it somewhat. Tread wear will be more even with the 10"

As far as trimmed fenders go, if you run a 33" tire, it will not fit in the stock fender well. But with a 6" lift it is not a problem until you stuff it in there. So if you are only going to crawl the mall, no biggie. But if you intend to take it off road, then trim the fenders or you will be hitting them.

I'm running 33x12.5s on my 98 XJ with around 5-6" of lift. If the fenders weren't trimmed the tires wouldn't even turn. To me, it's not necessary to go crazy with the trimming. Just cut enough to get the tire to fit at full stuff and it's all good.

This is how much mine is trimmed. not much at all. My tires still do rub cause i have no bumpstops. Thats why i have that trim on there, it keeps the fender from cutting my tires.

lol no, just cut off my stock fenders and saw no reason to put them back on. I like the look of cut fenders and i dont have to worry about tearing them off lol. Thanks, you too :)
