Vent Window Latch Popped Off... How to Reattach?

I was trying to tighten up the loose space between the window frame and the vent window latch. I guess I pulled a little too much and it popped off in my hand. The outside portion shot off into the grass. I recovered all the pieces and it looks pretty simple to attach but I can't get it to work.

It looks like there might be a thin hole in the lever with a pin but I'm not sure. Kind of smashed in there. Anyone know how to reattach this?

I'm not sure on XJs but on my old VWs i believe their held on with rivets.
