Still pulls in 4wd but snds Luke an axle slipping or stripped hub? Any suggestions before I tear it apart ? Stock Dana30 34x9.5x16 tractor tires maybe the problem along with my size 14 boot!

If it's a clunk, I'd say it's probably the axle shaft u-joint. Just replaced mine the other week.

How constant is the clunk? When does the clunk occur?

I'm not discounting your gut feeling of it being in the wheel area at all, but due to the location of the ds, it is possible that could be it. Maybe start with the easy/cheap stuff first? New u-joints for the front shaft start around 15 bucks Unless you have a buddy that you can borrow a front shaft from to test it. If that doesn't fix it, you have the peace of mind knowing that those are new :D. Then I'd take off the hub bearing and axle shaft to check those out. I wouldn't think hub bearing if it doesn't do it all the time.

I would visually inspect everything. Ujoints, driveshaft, hub bearing, and control arm bushings. If nothing looks bad then open the diff cover and look for broken teeth on the spider gears or ring and pinion.

I was thinking control arm bushings too. Also, check that ball joint on the track bar.

I changed out wheel bearing assemblies, axle u-joints, before figuring out it was the chain in the transfer case. Replace that and the sound went away. Not saying that's your problem, but I thought mine was a front wheel driver's side issue as well.

Not to fuel the fire, but couldn't it be the differential too. Only getting stressed when in 4wd....

You can see axle yokes without taking the tire off. Try to move them a bit, if they're loose it could be axle yoke bearings. Just try to rule something out at this point.

I just did new bearings and u joints in front DS and it fixed a vibe I had on acceleration FYI.

Yea, muddy everything sounds like its coming from there. Including my front DS until it popped off

In that case I would lean towards a worn chain in the transfer case
