I have upgraded all of the steering, Rusty's Jeep XJ-TJ-YJ Tie Rod Conversion. I have put new steering pump and steering gear box on the XJ. The front end is aligned and, the tires are balanced. I have put a Rusty's XJ Cherokee Long Arm Upgrade on the Jeep. Drag link is where it is supposed to be. I have replaced all bushing on the Jeep with Daystars super kit bushing. When I go down the road all it wants to do is wander back and forth. If, from a stop, I step on the gas the jeep wants to go to the left and, if I hit the brakes hard it wants to go to the right or left. What is making it do this? It is getting hard to keep it right now. HELP!!

Check the trackbar?

Also, check the steering shaft for a loose/worn u-joint.

That new box you put in, is adjust ed properly. I bought a new AGR box and it was loose as a goose. I had to adjust it.

I will check the steering shaft and the adjustments on the new box.

Mine does the same thing, well it sounds like the same thing. Mine is the pitman arm. It tilts to the left or right about 1/16 of an inch so it feels like I have a dead spot in the steering wheel. I've added washers under the nut and it fixes it for about 2 months. I think I need a thick single piece of metal. I shouldn't have to have this, but I think the SECOND drop pitman arm I've tried are made with to large an inner diameter.

I see the source of your wandering from these pics. You have what is called tie rod roll. When you steer right it rotates downward before applying much pressure to the wheels and left it rolls up. That takes up a fair amount of pitman arm movement and will contribute to wandering. There are some poly dust covers/shims you can get for the tie rod ends to take most of that away.

Also check your tire psi when mine's too high it does the same thing. Meaning I run mine lower than the tire says about 10-15 psi less.

I have this same steering from Rusty's. It's their steering conversion no? If so. I personally found this kit to be a POS. I still have it on, but not for much longer. To help reduce the same problem your having. I went to NAPA auto parts. Got some different name brand TRE's. Pretty much fixed my issue of the tie rod roll.

Jeep is back to good! I have had it aligned and found out what was wrong.1. The toe on the front wheels was way off, 2. The pitman arm, which was new and just put on by a shop, was not on right and was in position to wear all of the spindles off of the pitarm and the steering pump, 3. the end of the drag link needed to be replaced, 4. one end of the trac bar needed to be replaced, and 5. the steering pump needed to be tuned a little. Now it goes down the road straight and true!!

I wish I new how to tune the steering pump, but I don't. The guy that did the alignment did it for me
