Hi, Can I fit a 10cd changer in place of the original 6cd changer both are chrysler ( factory fitted ). But the 10cd has a 8pin square socket and the 6cd has a 8pin round socket Year 1999.

sounds like you would just need to match the sockets via a splice.

That is what I was thinking. But I would have to see if all the bases were covered with the same number of wires and same function.

Cheers, I was thinking myself it would just be a case of changing plugs. Although I am having trouble finding a cable with a square plug on to splice to original cable. Both are 8 pin so with a bit of luck the wires should be the same colours.

When I put my head unit in, I had to splice the old plug on to the new unit. Worked like a charm.

Great, I am just waiting for a lead to arrive from the USA. Should be here sometime next week. I shall let you know if it works.

I found a new 6cd changer so I fitted it instead of the 10cd changer. Saved a lot of messing. Thanks All.

I'm sure everyone is already aware of this, plus many people have a large CD collection and don't mind changing CD's in and out, so with that said...

CD = about 650mb of storage (can be higher) 6 x 650mb = 3.9gb.

SanDisk 4gb usb stub...

$5

Radio that accepts a USB memory drive, $100.

Another alternative... Smartphone and $8 cassette audio adapter.

I can't even imagine that. I have about 10 gigs on my iPod and that is good for a solid month of music, 24 hours a day. Still have 50 to go.

Hi, I've read with interest the comments on this issue. I have a 2000 XJ which I am about to install a x6 changer into. Having retrieved a factory fit unit from a wrecked 1999 XJ Orvis I found that it was fitted with a square 8-pin plug instead of the round 8-pin din socket on my Jeeps changer cable.
Is a splice the best route or can I souce a cable as forum member Radar seems to be doing.
I guess the type of plug was changed by Chrysler at some time, but I thought
both these vehicles were pretty close in age that they'd have the same connector.
Any advice appreciated! :)
