I was thinking about using bed liner on my stock wheels to match my black paint and to keep rust away. I was also thinking about doing my side mirrors and grille. I was thinking about using the Rustoleum bed liner from the spray cans. What is your luck with this and is it a good idea? Where else have you used this stuff? Post pictures please!

From what I've seen it doesn't look that good on wheels. Plasti-cot does though

Yeah I was going to mention Plasti-Kot(sp?) as well. It was recommended for use on my bumpers, and sliders. It looks great.

Another product you can use is one called Plasti-Dip. It gives a similar finish to bedliner and holds up pretty well. But the coolest part is that you can peel it off if you get tired of it.

I have sprayed the grill of a friend's WJ as well as the grille of my old Audi A4. The A4 is still in the family and hasn't needed a touch up since it got sprayed 18 months ago.

Right on, just wanted to clarify since there is Plastikote bed liner spray and then Plasti-Dip.

How well do they hold up to off-roading like sticks and branches and stuff?

I used some of the PlastiKote spray liner stuff on my rear bumper, which I haven't tested the toughness of yet... until last night when I completely killed the bumper on a pile of concrete rock... Didn't do too much to the coating at all... And that was only three semi thin coats on the bumper with no real prep other than washing the bumper prior to spraying it... so you should be good to use PlastiKote or even the Plasti-Dip...

Mark "DETOURS" recommended the bedliner in spray cans at WalMart to paint the bumpers I got from him. I painted the front bumper with it. I've only be offroad a few times but I haven't needed any touch ups. The back bumper I painted with flat black paint, and it is fading. I'm going to take it off and repaint it with Plastikote.

I actually have Plasti-Dip on my XJ. Everything that you see that is black, is Plasti-Dip. It holds up fairly well, but I've touched up spots on my rear bumper. It isn't extremely durable for larger applications, but the grill and headlight bezels are still perfect. Super easy to touch up too. And, it's perfect if you want to see if you like something black. I will eventually be replacing the black parts on my Jeep with permanent paint for the grill, and some form of bed liner on my bumpers and flares. I was going to do my wheels too just to see if I like them black. I'm extremely pleased with it myself. It's been on there for just about a year too. It's going to be a while before I can spend money on permanent stuff.

You can get plasti-dip in a spray can. Oh and BTW that looks great. The less red the better ;)

Ok it's spray on then. Yeah it does look good. I was thinking this would be great to put on the 1999 black parts that are so faded.

It's also available in quart sized cans. Not just aerosol. So you COULD dip if you got a kiddie pool or sumphin. :D

Definitely looks good. I painted the area between spokes on my turbine wheels. Makes the spokes stand out better and improves the overall looks of the wheel.

Yesterday was extremely busy, sorry I wasn't able to reply sooner. Yes, I used a rattle can for it. I believe the original application for Plasti-Dip was to dip tool handles in it for grip and insulation. I'd be lying if I said I remember for sure... but I think I used only 2 cans for everything. And thanks for the compliments fellers, I'm glad I did it. I think it looks naked without it now! I've also seen it at Home Depot in red and yellow, but I think you can order it in just about any color online.

I like the spray on my self brush on is a pain in the rear to do if your putting it on the outside

I agree. Spray on will be much easier to manage. I probably wouldn't use roll-on unless I'm ripping out carpet and bedlining the floor. But that's just me ;)

I think it looks great man! I think that's going to be my permanent paint! Love the way it came out on yours!

The texture looks fairly smooth, about like a matte finish. Am I correct?

Yeah that's probably what I'm gonna end up doing. And yeah the duplicolor peeled right off on my wheels so that was a pain in the a**

Thanks! it looks smooth but when you rub your hand over it you can feel a little bit of a texture. And you are correct it is like a matte finish. I'm thinking it will look pretty cool with the hood, mirrors, grille, bumpers and fenders, and wheels all matte with the rest gloss black.
