Take a look at these and pick the biggest one that fits in the available space:

I was hoping for a bigger one than that. :(

They come in different ratings. Mine in my hood has a 10,000 GVW rating.

I know...but the biggest one at Summit claims a 5000lb rating. (I would expect that's a TRAILER weight rating.) The local CarQuest has one with a 25,000lb rating...but it looks inferior to the big Summit cooler. It's also more money and the old tube-and-fin design...I know the stacked-plate is a better design.

Considering that my wife has somehow managed to talk me into Texas in June with a trailer, I want a BIG cooler!

From my catalogue, stacked tube cooler 24,000 GVW rating. The perfect size turned on the side

Where are you going to mount it ??

Ive got one, very similiar to the hayden 678 - mounted in front of the rad/air cores ... and it works fine.

Ive also got the silly RHD rad setup/tranny heat exchanger bypassed tho.

The thicker one 4.3LXJ linked to ought to be pretty good too ... but may cause a bit of, highway airflow restriction, compared to the skinnier 3/4" ones ??

Up front, haven't decided which side (clutch or electric fan) yet. But...I don't think I want one that thick. :(

The 678 (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HDA-678/), OTOH, is 11x9.5x3/4"...should be less restrictive. But it only claims a 5000lb rating. :(

I wouldn't want one that thick either. I was just posting to show the possibilities. Those just happened to look nice because they were 11" wide, the same height as an XJ radiator. If you mount in front of the radiator, pull your grill and check the clearance and go from there. Summit has a boatload of everything

I've had great luck with the B&M 70268 in both of my XJ's... 19,000GVW rated, fits perfect inside the grill:

How, EXACTLY, did you mount it?

Better charge the freon too and flush your radiator too!

I used the included "zip strips". Some people don't like them for various reasons, but I've never had an issue with using them (probably installed a dozen or so trans coolers over the years). Makes the installation extremely simple and fast compared to making brackets... I like to mount it directly in front of the mechanical fan to ensure it's always getting air pulled through it, rather than the other side where the e-fan resides.
