Hello everybody! I have been a gear head all of my life, but am new to Jeeps. My daughter who is a student at Baylor has a '97 XJ. She has always loved Jeeps so when she was 15 years old, I bought her the XJ. For the last four years I have maintained her XJ and have been really impressed with the engineering that went into these Jeeps! On Friday 9 March she was involved in a multi-vehicle accident just north of Huntsville, TX. Other than being sore from the airbags, she was not hurt thanks to the solid build of her XJ. She left the road at 65 mph and went through a ditch full of water which slowed her a lot before she hit the cables dividing the freeway. A post which hold up the cables stopped her.

When she saw her Jeep for the first time after the accident she almost broke down crying and asked if I could fix it. I told her I would do my best. Since I have worked on cars all of my life, I was not real sure if it could be fixed. After I got it home I became more optimistic so I started searching the Internet for forums about Jeeps. I am a moderator at DigitalCorvettes.com so I know the value of the knowledge in these forums. I found a donor '99 XJ close to where I live and bought it. It was rolled so no body parts I can use, but the mechanical things I need are all good.

Here is a pic of her Jeep when we first saw it:

Here is a pic of the donor XJ I bought the other day:

I am looking forward to learning all about XJs from all of you! I will try to post my progress as I re-build Kermit. (My daughter calls her XJ Kermit)

Do you have a link to a thread?

I need to find out more about the unibody that supports the fender.
