Transfer Case Spline Count

Question 1, what years do the spline counts change? Reason.... My 93 build has a 242, I have a 231 that I just re-built with a SYE. After removing the 242, I see the 242 is 23 spline, the 231 is a 21 spline. Can the the end piece of the 23 spline ( 242 ) be swapped to the 231? I guess at worst I will have to do a hack & tap to the 242 if I have no other options.

91 is the year they changed in the autos and you can swap the inputs.

It is easier and cheaper to get the right case. I swapped inputs on a 231 when I had one because I could not find a 23 spline case at the wrecking yard. $100 for a case. $200 for and input gear with 23 splines

Here is the latest..... I found a gear $100, no cases in my area. So I think it will work out even. I just had the case apart to do the SYE, so no oil in it and it should come apart easy.

And the cases I did see in other area's were $200 or more:crazy:
