I was thinking about installing a pair of Rigid 2x2 LED lights (overkill?) in the '00 stock bumper to provide some extra visibility when backing up.

My first thought was to mount them to the inside of the bumper skin and then put some kind of rubber stripping around the cutout to give it a good, tight fit.

Anyone done something like this or have any good ideas for mounting systems?

I like the idea, especially the LED part. I've thought of cutting out for 6" oval LED tail lights in the bumper. How do they mount? If its a bolt you could probably weld on a tab to bolt the light to, or make a bolt on L bracket that bolts to the bumper. Pics if you do it please.

This is what I was trying to go by because I haven't seen one in person. But I was just thinking some kind of complete wrap around housing mount because I wouldn't want all the movement to be put on that tiny mount.

The wrap around would be U shaped with tabs at the top of each end that would bolt flat to the bumper skin. Then in the bottom of the U would be a cutout of varying size depending on how far down around the LED housing you wanted it to sit.

Of course, I'm just brainstorming. It could be total scheisse too.

Sounds like you got a plan. I've done a few things that i hadn't seen and really didn't know if they were gonna work when i started em but do your thinking and brainstorming now so you don't come to a roadblock when it could stop you in your tracks. Crawl up under your jeep to look at the back side of the bumper. Pretty much the only thing back there is the bumper mounts but it will also give you a better picture in your mind to go by.

Haven't gotten into it yet, was more a post to get ideas on how to do it. See what others may have done.

It is something that I'd like to do in the near future, so as soon as I get anything on it, I will share it here.

Parts have been ordered to make this happen. Hopefully they'll be here and installed by the end of the weekend. :D

If you are creative I am sure you could figure out a way to mount these with a small slit or square hole in your bumper or on either side of the license plate.
