hey guys, ive had this xj for a couple months now. the trans is a ba10/5 speed, and has a 231j t-case.

im wanting to put seals in both and reseal the transmission case when i swap the engine! but i have never worked on a manual trans or t-case.

so, is there anything scary about splittin the case halfs on the ba10 to reseal it? or is it somethin best left to a mechanic that knows whats goin on with them? i am sure i can do the t-case seals for sure.

i have searched and havent found much on the trans except it weak! but im not gonna go huge tires or anything, just 30 or 31's on a 3 inch lift. and im not too hard on stuff, so im hoping it will last till i can afford an ax15. lol any help would be appriciated.

also, whats involved in putting in a slip yoke eliminator? easy? or difficult?

Lots of questions there Matt. I have never been into a BA10, but most standard trannys are no big deal. Got into my first one at 19 and put an Advance Adapter Ford to Jeep adaptor on it (in the living room of course).

The 231 tcase is not overly complicated. But if you are going to put the SYE in or split the case, then just plan on getting some snap ring pliers. Get some good ones and you will not be frustrated. And don't loose that little spring. It is important. You will never get it out of 4WD without it

lol, thanks 4.3, figure i better ask em before i screw somethin up. im pretty confident i can do the t-case and s.y.e. the trans has me worried about splittin that thing open. thanks for the info. will soon be gettin a few more parts, start a new job this week, so i will have the extra cash to finally start doin this thing.

Why do you want to split the case? Is it leaking?

seams to be at the back end of it. may be between the trans and t-case, not sure. gonna clean it up and see where it comes from next couple of days.
