Nothing wrong with a 706, I just can't stand them for whatever reason. I'd take a 857 before a 706…I don't know why. I also don't run HF mobile (unless we're talking about 10m and 6m FM).

Personally I can't stand 706. Loved my 718. Thought the 7000 was okay for HF, doesn't compare to a F121 or F221 for vhf/uhf (unless you need ssb for something).
